Pumpkin Beer, Pumpkin Risotto & A Full Moon

Posted By I Love Pumpkins on October 15, 2008

On Tuesday night I met with Dan O., one of my guest writers, to discuss his pumpkin article for the blog. We started at Monk’s Kettle, only to find that they’d removed the Punkin’ Ale from their draft beer selection! It was there just a week ago! Any bar that takes itself seriously CANNOT get by this season without a pumpkin beer on their menu every day! What are these guys thinking?

Those punks were out of Punkin Ale!

So we rolled down to what might just be the sincerest bar in The Mission of San Francisco, the Inner Mission Beer Parlor. David the bartender poured us Buffalo Bill’s Pumpkin Ale. But check this out: David is also evaluating Shipyard Pumpkinhead Ale for their menu. Yes, these guys are serious: they’re considering having TWO pumpkin beers in their lineup. Now that’s what I call a bar. My message to David: DO IT! In fact, if they had to choose only one, I’d take the Shipyard Pumpkinhead Ale. David was kind enough to share with me his one-and-only sample bottle of Shipyard. As soon as we tasted it, we both looked up and said, “Wow, that’s pumpkin!”

Heads-up: Inner Mission will be having a Halloween Party and pumpkin carving contest on Tuesday October 28th. It’s gonna get messy my friends!

Swing Dancing at Verdi Club

Swing Dancing at Verdi Club

After our pumpkin beers we decided to have dinner at Slow Club. There was a 20-minute wait, so we took a quick detour to the Verdi Club and crashed the swing dancing lessons, with Dan and I drinking a Manhattan and a Sidecar respectively. When we got to Slow Club out luck continued: they were serving Pumpkin Risotto! Full moon and lots of pumpkin. What could be dreamier??

  1. Be careful whenever having too much beer because it can end up in alcoholism. Ofcourse if you are an enjoyer of life just like i am then you might not care!

  2. Thanks for the advice, Betty! Happy Pumpkin Season 2012!
